Worklight Brightens IBM's Mobile Strategy

On January 31, 2012, IBM purchased Worklight for an undisclosed sum. Worklight is a privately held company based in Tel Aviv and New York that provides open-standards based mobile application platform that helps companies build and iterate mobile apps quickly. Why did they make this purchase? In the past five years, businesses have realized that mobile is changing how we engage with customers and how we transact business. But mobile presents a challenging environment with the rise of numerous operating systems, multiple device types and a diverse range of functions across devices. This fragmented mobile landscape has put IT shops in a bind as they look for the best way to mobilize apps and processes for the widest range of devices without reinventing the wheel every six months.
